Teaching Philosophy in Prison. In Fall 2024, Dr. Shottenkirk invited me to co-teach a Feminist Philosophy class for female inmates at the Metropolitan Detention Center in Brooklyn. The sessions included lectures and discussions in both English and Spanish.
Conversations on Power. Starting in 2025, I have been a Resident Philosopher at the monthly event at Liz's bookbar, where we hold philosophical conversations with attendees. TalkPOPc coordinates these events; for more information, please visit https://www.talkpopc.org/.
Philosophy Department. I served on the Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion Committee (EDIC) from 2022 to 2023, and on the Admission Committee from 2023 to 2024.
Doctoral and Graduate Students Council (DGSC). I was elected at-large representative in 2022. The DGSC represents and advocates for CUNY students; it meets monthly to discuss concerns, opportunities, and proposals and to communicate them to other policymaking bodies within the university. Social Categories (2025-2026). I organized a reading group on social categories to discuss texts on marginalized social categories or written by marginalized philosophers. Among the topics we discussed were feminist perspectives on selfhood, the Kurdish struggle, and Hijras identities.
Social Categories (2022). I organized an online reading group on social categories, open to anybody, with people from different disciplines, countries, and institutions. Among the topics we discussed were class, race, gender, sexual orientation, and mental disorders.
Interinstitutional Feminism Seminar. In spring 2021, I organized the Interinstitutional Feminism Seminar, held online and open to the public. It consisted of five talks on different topics in feminist philosophy such as gender violence, patriarchy and capitalism, and the ontology of sexed bodies.
Internal Commission for Gender Equality. In 2020, I joined the Internal Commission for Gender Equality. Our work included a diagnosis of gender equality in the Institute, talks with the Institute community, and events on philosophy and feminist debates. Below is one of the events we organized.
From 2012 to 2016, I was part of a project on popular education for Adult Literacy and Education coordinated by Colegio Madrid High School in Mexico City. Since 1985, a group of teachers and students has prepared for six months each year to teach in rural and indigenous communities. We were inspired by Paulo Freire's activism and work. We read and discussed Freire's work, which emphasized liberating and horizontal education.
